Frequently Asked Questions about E.T. Grip

Q: Is the E.T.GRIP easy to install?
A: Yes. You can install your E.T.GRIP in just minutes by following the instructions carefully and by using the proper amount of assembly lube. The key to an easy and successful installation of the grip is to use a generous layer of lube both inside the grip and on the handle base itself. Be sure the grip is oriented correctly and slide it on until it bottoms completely. Small adjustments can be made by “massaging” the grip into position after it is installed. After installing, wipe off any excess lube with a damp cloth. If the grip is installed correctly, the top of the grip will be even with the bottom of the trigger window and the bottom slot centered over the wire exit holes.

Q: Why is my E.T.GRIP not installing easily or properly?
A: Check to be sure the grip is oriented as per the instructions. Check to be sure the handle does not have any sharp edges or flashing from the mold. If it does, smooth it down with a fine file. Use a generous layer of lube both inside the grip and on the handle base itself. Be sure the grip bottoms completely. There should be no air gap in the base. Be sure the wire slot is oriented correctly and centered over the wire exit holes.

Q: Does the E.T.GRIP fit all controllers?
A: The E.T.GRIP is designed to fit most all of the commercial pistol-type controllers produced from the 1960’s to the present day. Check the application chart and specify model ET1 or ET2 while ordering.

Q: I have a custom-built racing controller. Will the E.T.GRIP fit?
A: While the E.T.GRIP is designed to fit the vast majority of available racing controllers, there are some custom built units which may require slight modifications to the grip. Toggle switches, pots, cables, fuse holders etc. which have been added to the stock handle may require slight trimming to accommodate them. Use a round gasket punch or small curved trimming scissors to make alterations whenever possible as this will prevent the rubber from splitting. Also, controllers using in-line accessories such as brake rheostats, heat sinks, and blast relays will need to have these articles temporarily removed in order to install the E.T.GRIP.

Q: How do I remove the E.T.GRIP if I need to service my controller?
A: Much like the hand grips on a racing cycle or the grip on a golf club, the form fitting properties which give the E.T.GRIP its custom-tailored feel also make it a single-use item. In the event that your controller requires servicing, it will be necessary to cut the grip off in order to remove it. Use a small trimming scissor to start, and then peel the grip apart and slide off the lead wires. (See enclosed instruction sheet). After servicing the controller, install a fresh E.T.GRIP, and you’re ready to race.

Q: How long will my E.T.GRIP last?
A: Your E.T.GRIP is made from the latest “Space Age” materials. It is soft to the touch yet extremely durable, and should last indefinitely under normal use. Wipe off occasionally with a damp cloth to keep it performing like new!
